Online Safety and Bullying

Children and young people spend a lot of time online and may face risks such as online bullying or being exposed to inappropriate content.
Whether you're unsure about what happens online or are familiar with new technology, it's important that you talk to your child about staying safe.
It may feel daunting, but you don't need to be an expert on the internet. Understanding what children do online and the risks they face will help you keep your child safe online.

***26th February 2019 - Important Update***

Dear Parents/Carers,

We have become aware of a new internet hoax following some children coming to school both concerned and upset about it. It is called the ‘Momo challenge’ and encourages children to take part in dangerous activities. This can pop up in various ways, including in the middle of seemingly ‘safe’ videos on YouTube. This may then ask for a number and add them to a WhatsApp message or try to call them. Please can you support us in keeping our children safe by monitoring very closely the type of sites they are accessing and encourage them to tell an adult as soon as they can if they see or hear about something like this, or if they are worried in any way.

Another site that is causing some problems is Tik Tok. This is rated as not appropriate for primary school aged children. Problems are coming into school that have originated from comments children are making about others on here. Again we would ask that you monitor and report any unacceptable or inappropriate content.

If you have any concerns please speak to us in school and report any dangerous or inappropriate sites/content to the Police. Additional support can be accessed on the NSPCC website www.nspcc.org.uk or their helpline on 0808 800 5000. Children who are worried can contact Childline on 0800 1111. This information will also be put on our school website.

Thank you for your support with this important matter.
